Janine Whitelaw is a New Zealand born and bred artist, residing in Northland with her partner and two young sons.

Having painted throughout her working life, Janine returned from working overseas as an Occupational Therapist and was re-inspired by New Zealand ’s unique landscape, coast and wildlife.

A keen scuba diver and water sports enthusiast, much of Janine’s work depicts Northland’s coastal lifestyle. After the birth of her first son, Janine attended art class under the tutorage of Aroha Paora to learn the techique and use of oil colour.

Janine’s preferred medium is oil on stretched canvas because of the vibrancy and texture, however she is currently exploring multi media techniques, such as moulding paste, flax weave and impasto techniques.

Janine has held three combined exhibitions with her art class, two of which were sellouts. The majority of her paintings sold on opening night. Ongoing commission work generated from these exhibitions has led to the release of limited edition prints. These prints on fine art canvas create a quality replication of the original in both look and colour.

Now painting full time, as much as is possible with two young sons, Janine hopes her work evokes peoples senses and recreates memories of Northland’s beautiful and unique landscapes and lifestyle.
